Solano County Feral Cat TNR Task Force In Cooperation with Solano County Animal Rescue Foundation
Mare Island Cats

Mare Island is a former Navel Shipyard that is currently being redeveloped by the city of Vallejo and developer Lennar Mare Island. In order to protect two endangered species located on the island (salt harvest mouse and California clapperrail), the City is bound by the US Fish & Wildlife Service to hire a trapper "in perpetuity" to remove predators -- raccoons, possums, fox and cats.

Although the endangered species are located on one side of the island, the trapper is required to keep the entire island free from all predators. This includes young kittens who could be socialized and adopted into loving homes -- however, they aren't given that chance.

The City of Vallejo has recently amended their predator management contract to require the trapper to bring feral cats to the local humane society instead of shooting the cats in the trap, however, he has only brought in 3 in the last year while volunteers have TNR'd 60+ ferals in the same time period.

The kittens pictured here are just a few who have been trapped, socialized and adopted into permanent, loving homes. SO MANY MORE NEED HELP!

How you can help:
  • Foster and socialize kittens to get them ready for adoption
  • Transport cats to spay/neuter appointments
  • Donate your time/trapping skills
  • Adopt socialized kittens
  • Adopt a "garden kitty"
  • Relocate feral adults to a stable colony or barn home
  • Donate $$ to help with spay/neuter and medical costs**
All cats/kittens will be spayed/neutered before being adopted or released to foster homes or colonies.

Special thanks these organizations without whose help these cats would not have been saved.
